When choosing a membrane cleaning agent, it is necessary to select and prepare it based on the type of contaminants on the membrane surface. Common membrane contaminants include inorganic salt scaling, iron filings, colloidal substances, microorganisms, and large-molecule organic substances, etc. The commonly used membrane cleaning methods include three categories: physical cleaning, chemical cleaning, and biological cleaning. Physical cleaning mainly includes hydraulic cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, and mechanical scraping, while chemical cleaning involves using various cleaning agents to remove the contaminants.
Membrane cleaning agent is a chemical compound specifically designed to remove contaminants from membrane filtration equipment. It can effectively remove dirt and deposits from the membrane surface, maintain membrane flux, and extend the lifespan of the membrane. Cleaning agents are mainly classified into acidic cleaning agents, alkaline cleaning agents, and composite cleaning agents. Their main components include acids, bases, organic solvents, surfactants, metal chelating agents, and bactericides, and the combination of these components gives membrane cleaning agents their strong cleaning ability.
Common acids include hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfamic acid and citric acid, etc. These substances can effectively promote the dissolution of inorganic calcium and magnesium ions, and remove iron oxide and metal sulfides, etc.
Common base include ammonia and hydroxides, which can loosen, emulsify and disperse the deposits. They are particularly effective in cleaning microbial contamination (such as oils, proteins, algae), colloidal contamination, and most soluble organic pollutants.
The commonly used celating agents include STPP (trisodium phosphate), EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), citric acid, etc. Chelating agents can combine with metal ions, preventing them from depositing on the membrane surface or forming scale, thereby further protecting the integrity and performance of the membrane.
The commonly usedsurfactants include SS (dodecyl sulfate) and Na-DDBS (dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid sodium). Surfactants can break the surface tension of dirt and contaminants, making them easier to be washed away and enhancing the cleaning effect.
Common salt solutions include sodium chloride and sodium bisulfite. They are used to remove metal oxides and hydroxides, and can be extended to some extent for the removal of calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, and silver sulfate scale.
In addition, common disinfectants include formaldehyde, isothiazolinone, sodium bisulfite, and glutaraldehyde. Membrane cleaners are widely used in various industries, such as wastewater treatment, drinking water treatment, medicine, food and beverages, chemical industry, and electronics industry, etc. In these industries, membrane cleaners can be used to clean various types of membranes, such as ultrafiltration membranes, nanofiltration membranes, and reverse osmosis membranes, to remove dirt, bacteria, pigments, and organic substances on the membrane surface, ensuring the quality and safety of products.
The selection of cleaing agents should comply with the principle of not causing secondary pollution, and should not produce substances that have a significant impact on water quality. Different industries and different types of pollution may require different cleaning plans and cleaning agent products. Therefore, in practical applications, appropriate membrane cleaning agents should be selected based on specific circumstances.
