A microfiltration membrane generally refers to a membrane with a filtration pore size ranging from 0.1 to 1 micrometers. This type of membrane can retain particles within the range of 0.1 to 1 micrometers. It allows large molecules and soluble solids (such as inorganic salts) to pass through, but will retain suspended matter, bacteria, and substances with large molecular weights. The operating pressure of a microfiltration membrane is typically between 0.3 and 7 bar. Microfiltration membrane filtration is one of the membrane technologies that have been developed and applied earlier in the world. It uses natural or synthetic high-molecular compounds as membrane materials. For microfiltration membranes, the separation mechanism is mainly sieve retention.

1. The separation efficiency is an important performance characteristic of microporous membranes. This characteristic is controlled by the pore size and pore size distribution of the membrane. Since microporous filter membranes can achieve relatively uniform pore sizes, the filtration accuracy of microporous membranes is higher and their reliability is better.
2. The surface porosity is high, generally reaching 70%, which is at least 40 times faster than filter paper with the same retention capacity.
3. The thickness of microporous membranes is small, and the loss caused by the adsorption of the liquid by the filtering medium is very little.
4. The polymer-based microporous membranes are a uniform continuous body. During filtration, there is no medium shedding, which will not cause secondary pollution, and thus high-purity filtrate can be obtained.
